Creative Nonfiction is the last genre I learned, and honestly it surprised me how much I love it. I learned a lot through it, both about different techniques and about myself. Even though it's rooted in reality, there's still so much room to be creative with it.
Written for my Intermediate Creative Nonfiction class, this essay is the one I'm most proud of. In fact it was published in the Kolob Canyon Review Journal. I wrote it right after the event described in it happened and the words just came out, no second-guessing, no overthinking. The writing process was easy, almost brutal, if i may say so myself, just like the content of the piece itself. It was drawn from my experience as a Black woman in Utah, navigating micro-racism and discrimination from people I thought were closest to me.
