She is confident in her abilities and with that comes the strength of character to hear and take both praise as well as constructive criticism in a manner that helps make one’s work more successful. She mentors with a confidence born of knowing that she has worked hard to master various skills and understands how to share that knowledge with others. I have also seen the kind of creativity necessary to pursue her goals and interests and I have no doubt she will continue to showcase those talents in the future.

          Writing path

          How did I start?

          What is your motivation?

          How can I contact you?

          My Heading

“Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity.”

          Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I think about that often, because I am, in many ways, the product of many stories at once: a Black French-speaking woman from abroad, a bisexual hopeless romantic, and a twenty-something girl still in the middle of her own coming-of-age story. Whether I am writing fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction, I return to the same constellation of themes: romance, race, culture, and identity. For a long time, I thought this repetition was a limitation. I now understand it is a compass. These are the subjects I know with the most intimacy, and they are, I believe, the subjects that bring people together. There is nothing more universal than the search for belonging, and nothing more particular than the specific wound that makes belonging feel impossible.
